No bread is an island

...entire of itself. (With apologies to John Donne!)
I live and breathe breadmaking. I’m an evangelist who would like everyone to make his or her own bread. I want to demystify breadmaking and show it as the easy everyday craft that it is. To this end I endeavour to make my recipes as simple and as foolproof as I possibly can.

I call my blog 'No bread is an island' because every bread is connected to another bread. So a spicy fruit bun with a cross on top is a hot cross bun. This fruit dough will also make a fruit loaf - or Chelsea buns or a Swedish tea ring...
I'm also a vegan, so I have lots of vegan recipes on here - and I'm adding more all the time.

FORTHCOMING COURSES and workshops

Latest on my upcoming breadmaking sessions - as at 2nd January 2015.

Breadmaking made easy

A 2-hour monthly session

Next session, 2-4pm Monday 19th January 2015, at
St Georges Church Hall, Wilton, Fons George, Taunton

Cost £8 per session plus ingredients.

(To enrol, please contact me on paulyoud at hotmail dot com)

Next session we'll be making Italian ciabatta and chocolate cake. [But really, I'd like my students to make the breads they want to make - so email me with your choice. We can have a go at any bread apart from a wrapped, sliced, supermarket loaf! :) ]

Each month students will decide which breads they'd like to make next.

My aim is to simplify all aspects of bread making and show it as the easy, everyday craft that it is.

This course will cover the basic skills and techniques required of breadmaking. Each week students will make two different types of bread - from simple, traditional breads, to more ambitious varieties - of which there are so many!

So far, we've made soda bread, fancy dinner rolls, pain au chocolat, a variety of loaves (including a 4-strand plait), Chelsea buns, pizzas and more!

Aims:

My first aim, in all my courses, is to turn my students into competent bread bakers, able to make any bread they fancy.
My second aim is that they should enjoy themselves in the process! :)
